About This Site
I first read Your Money or Your Life in 2001, just after taking a job as a pharmaceutical sales representative. My mentor, a member of The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), gave me the book as his way of saying, "Congratulations. Now don't get caught up in the rat race."
The book outlines the concept known as the "crossover point" and defines it as the time when your investments consistenly earn you more than you spend monthly. The concept is simple enough, but in a country where consumerism is an epidemic, being disciplined enough to reach the crossover point is not that easy. I've had my own troubles keeping it simple, but a recent post about the crossover point on the personal finance blog The Simple Dollar, reminded me of the power of this very basic concept.
I created this calculator, and this site, as a way to motivate others who struggle to keep their eyes on the prize when it comes to financial planning - and especially when it comes to spending.
I'm no financial planner. In fact, my wife manages the money in our house. Please don't consider anything on this site to be financial advice. It isn't.
